LLED 462 - Final Learning Curation

End where I began...

I began this course by forming a beginning essential question or guiding statement to help build my learning curation and explorations.

My Beginning Essential Question:
  • What are some effective ways to integrate technology into a library program to serve all students in K-6?
  • How can we use technology in the library other than for research and OPAC searches?
  • Making technology useful in the library...(using technology for inquiry projects)
My Goals for this course were:

To gather useful tools for using technology in the library with all grades and to explore as much as I can about Web 2.0 tools. To create a library learning commons where everyone can read, explore, create, share and collaborate.

Summary of the Evolution of my Curation and Essential Question:

My journey through LLED 462 has taught me many things about the library and the role of the teacher-librarian. It has helped me reach my goals and develop my essential question. I have gathered and learned to use different types of Web 2.0 tools that I am now sharing with others in my school community. Perhaps the most essential part of this course was being able to collaborate with the Grade 2 teachers in my school to create a unit plan that integrated a number of these Web 2.0 tools. As well, I was able to create a Library Webpage that includes several of these Web 2.0 tools, so that I am able to share and collaborate with other teachers and students.

Along with all this, I have learned the importance of media and digital literacy and how essential it is to teach students how to be aware of what's online and online safety.

Furthermore, I've learned that advocating for the library is so important, as it sends a message to everyone that the library is an integral part to students and teachers and that it is no longer the place for just signing out books. Libraries are a place for collaborating, sharing, learning, exploring and so much more.

I created a school library website to showcase everything the library has to offer and everything that happens in the library. It's the place to be! http://qgelibrary.weebly.com/

Overall, I am grateful for having taken this course. It has inspired me to be a better Teacher-Librarian and to create a Library Learning Commons for everyone to enjoy and be a part of. Of course, it has also helped me with answering my essential questions by allowing me to explore and try new technologies that I can easily integrate into my library program and to collaborate with Teachers in my school.

Thank you!
